What Does Green Seal® Certification Mean?

Green Seal certification goes beyond simply labeling a product as “green.” Green Seal’s GS-1 Standard for Sanitary Paper Products evaluates products across environmental, health, sourcing, manufacturing, packaging, and performance criteria. The standard covers commercial products such as paper towels, bathroom tissue, facial tissue, and napkins.

Under the current GS-1 standard, qualifying recycled products must be made from 100% recycled content and meet minimum post-consumer recycled-content requirements. Those minimums include 40% for paper towels and 20% for bathroom tissue.

That independent certification gives customers greater confidence that the products they are purchasing meet established sustainability standards—not just marketing claims.
